Digestive Tract Cleansing
Digestive tract cleansing is something each and every one of us needs to do more of. Even though the colon is a large part of the digestive tract, we are not specifically only talking about that here.
Within the digestive tract is the intestinal track and some of our major organs. Just about all diseases have their start in the intestinal tract. This means that diet is important to say the least, and considering our modern western dieting habits we all need to do a digestive tract cleansing.
How we got here
The reason our digestive system got to be in such a bad state of health lies directly with the high processed foods we eat. Food companies put man-made additives and chemicals in all our food for preservation, taste, freshness and appearance.
The reasons are many and the list is long but we can pin-point the problem to two categories:
- trans fats
Man-made sugar comes to us in many forms and names but they are all causing havoc to our health. Sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose dextrose and malt dextrose are all extremely unhealthy man-made refined sugars we should avoid. Included to the list these artificial sweeteners as well; NutraSweet, Splenda, aspartame, sucrolos, and saccharin.
These artificial, highly processed man-made sugars are making us fat and extremely unhealthy and are the first substance you need to eliminate for a digestive tract cleansing, otherwise the next steps will be negated because of the harm and digestive system unbalance they create.
Next are trans fats
Trans fats from vegetable oils made using hydrogenation are killing many of us, literally. The #2 killer, colon cancer has been linked to diets high in trans fats. Read the labels! Even when products say zero trans fats they can still contain hydrogenated oil. Why? Because there are loopholes in the system that allow them to do this.
Once you eliminate sugar and trans fats you have done what most North Americans do not do. This is a big step in not only digestive tract cleansing but total all around health and major prevention in disorders and disease.
As the elimination process begins, the next step is to add the good foods to your diet
The #1 quality foods to add is dietary fiber. Many cleansing programs recommend psyllium husk, and it’s a good source of fiber but it’s not the only one. You can eat oat bran and flax seed, many fruits and vegetables also have good amounts of dietary fiber. The best being kiwifruit, but you must eat the skin.
How to eliminate the junk – additives and chemicals
Getting the toxins out of your body is crucial as you can imagine. Unfortunately, well-meaning and health conscious people who will start adding what they think are healthy fruits and vegetable are just adding more toxins in the way of pesticides and herbicides. Commercial growers use these and other chemicals to accelerate their production and increase profits as quickly and as much as they can.
Organically grown food is the only way to benefit from their nutrients. Start small with a few fruits and vegetables and go from there, exploring some of the foods you eat more regularly and see if you can’t find organically grown versions.
